Sexual predatorsthreaten children of all ages, online and offline. Here is some great, disturbing yet positive news out of Oregon.
Oregon this week: a law enforcement task force, quietly launched this past October, has developed 53 cases against suspected online predators seeking sex with children, authorities announced Thursday. There have been many arrests of suspected sexual predators.
We know most parents are not interested in reading about this, even finishing this short blog post. It hits too close to their real fears: how do they know their child is safe? Fear is a powerful motivator. They ahve no idea if their child is ever going to be accosted by a sexual predator and so the reaction, from 90% of the praents is to, hit the "back" button on the browser. Too bad.
Last month was Stop Child Abuse Month and most events around the county were very poorly attended. Ignorace is bliss, right?
Just becuase you face your wildest fears as aparent does not make them come ture. It makes your child safer. "YAY!" for ORegon and we support law enforcement there. There are people making a difference for kids against sexual predators.
Most of those arrested were from the Portland metro area, but a few -- including one from Minnesota -- came from out of state hoping to have sex with a minor. One man showed up in a work van outfitted with a bed.
The Wilsonville-based task force, named the Interagency Child Exploitation Prevention Team -- or Intercept, was formed by representatives of the Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas county sheriff's offices, the Oregon Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorney's Office and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as well as local district attorneys.
